A truck drivin crude oil haulin quilting mama!

You know the stereotype of a quilter - an old granny with her hair in a bun and a neat and tidy housedress sitting at the frame hand quilting? Well, here is today's quilter - a truck drivin', crude-oil haulin', quiltin' mama! Or other-wise known as Monika of QuiltLover.

In her own words, taken from her profile one Etsy:

"Hello, My name is Monika and I am a Quilt Lover. I started quilting in the 1980's and pursued it as a hobby. Since retiring from long haul truck driving in Nov. 2006 I became more serious about my hobby and I am now busy making quilts and establishing my business as a Long-Arm Quilter with my APQS Freedom. I have 3 very serious Fans which are welcome in my Studio anytime, there is an 8lb TerriPoo named Peaches, a Chinese Crested Powderpuff named Phayzer and the cutest little Miss Molly, a 5 month old Border Terrier Mix. Their unconditional Love and Trust makes every day a special day.

We are going back to driving on a part time basis with Hubby. We will be working one week and home one week, hauling crude oil from the leases in the fields of northern Alberta to a distribution center in Saskatchewan. It will be a team operation once again and I am looking forward to yet another challenge in my life, hauling "super B" tankers! The puppies will come with us, thankfully we'll be in a truck only for 7 days!"

For all I know her hair is in a bun under her hard hat, but I hardly think she is your average quilter!

Here is one of my favorite's currenty in her shop:
Hope you've enjoyed this peek into the life of a quilter today!

Quiltsy Team Chat!

Kym, Tiffany, Shannon and I (Pamelaquilts)have been talking about starting up a team chat time, and with all the new members and changes decided that it's time to do it! So on Tuesday, July 29 at 9:00 p.m. eastern time (6:00 pacific...) we will be in the Chat rooms on Etsy.

In case you've never done this before, it's under the community tab, and you'll click on the box at the far right that says Chat. A list of rooms comes up, look for the one that says Quiltsy Team. It will have a box you can type the password in, just convo one of us for the password. This way it will be just us quilters! I am a recent newcomer to using this, and it's pretty easy - just don't hit the backspace key at the wrong time (I tend to accidently leave the room once in a while doing this!). Join us for some friendly discussion, bring your own refreshments! I encourage you to join us, especially if you are a first time chatter - it's pretty fun to talk in real time and you won't have to worry about not knowing what to do - because several of us are just learning, too!

We are especially looking for input on tagging and the guidelines we would like to have in place. With our group at about 100 members it's time to make sure that we keep our identity and ideals intact through this growth spurt.

Happy quilting, till then!

(I added the links to our names to make it easy to know how to contact us for the password.)

Quiltsy on the Front Page!

Tuesday was Treasury Day for Quiltsy members - not only did several members get treasury pages, but we also were featured on the Front Page! This is a screenshot of the treasury made by warmnfuzzies - isn't it beautiful! Wonder if any of our new ones will make it to the front page? I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

Our First Quiltsy Block Swap!

The participant list has been finalized and we have 16! We will each be making 15 blocks to trade and 1 to keep for ourselves. This is the list of swappers and the guidelines for this swap:

Block Size 6.5" (for a 6" finished block)

Each swapper will make 1 block for each "swap sister" (the more variety the better, so feel free to make different blocks).

There are 16 signed up, so each swapper mails 16 blocks (16 other than you-but don't forget to make yourself a block too!).

All blocks mailed to FNQ with return postage.

I'm looking forward to seeing the different blocks that come out of this swap!

This swap is now closed, but rumor has it that a Chrismas Swap may be starting up, so keep your eyes open so you don't miss out on that one!

Quiltsy group on Treasury (or not!)

Etsy's treasury had an interesting meltdown today, which caused a lot of quiltsy members to lose their lists! It would have been interesting had we all gotten a Treasury list because I think there were at least 5 of us trying! Oh well, there will be plenty of lists another day.

Tomorrow is the final day for members to sign up for the block swap. Currently we have 11 signed up and are planning to make two blocks for each one. If we get more swappers we will cut down to one each, so we won't have to make so many blocks. We are making 6" finished size green and blue blocks. This is for fun, not to be judged so all are welcome!

If you would like to be an author on this blog and are a quiltsy member, please convo Pamelaquilts on Etsy and I will be glad to send you an invitation. The more the merrier!

Rosebud block

This sweet little block was fast and fun to make-my first one for the team block swap. I never really liked it in the larger sizes I've always seen it in but a 6 inch block is just right.

My first blog post!

I thought I would give this a try and get this going again. I just love the tutorial below! I don't have any handy ideas or anything but thought I could just add a new image. Hopefully others will follow. This is one my quilts from my Etsy site, Moran Art and Quilts.
