WiP Wednesday #34

Welcome to this week's Work In Progress (WiP) link party!

This is it - I'm coming down to the wire for the Eagle Holiday Bazaar. I've got just a couple days left for making stock and working on my display. It's kind of exciting. Unfortunately, I caught the flu last Friday, slept through Saturday, and was still sick enough on Sunday that just walking down the stairs left me kind of shaky. Awesome. This means that I'll soon be practicing my zen to the tune of, "Whatever I've got done will be fine." In the meantime, here's the numbers for this week.

WiP Wednesday #33

Welcome to another WiP (Work in Progress) Wednesday! I'm your host, Jerimi. For the next 9 days I'll be obsessing over a holiday craft show that I signed up for.

I made pretty good progress this week, considering how busy I've been with my "real" job. ;)

Pin cushions sewn (still need buttons): 35

Medium and small kicksticks finished: 41 (total, not each)

Totals Completed for Holiday Show:
Pin cushions: 11
Catnip Quilts: 17
Kickstick Bitties: 81
Medium Kicksticks: 37
Jumbo Kicksticks: 5
Catnip Mice and Squids: 2
Catnip Pillows: 163

In a perfect world, I'd like a nice round 100 of each item. I'm not sure that's realistic, though. How do you guys determine how much stock to have on hand for a craft show? Do you have a system for it?

There were some awesome shares from the team, last week. Fabric Fascination shared a finished top, some gorgeous batik blocks, and adorable stockings.

Happier Than A Bird Quilts shared a spiderweb quilt, drunken zebra blocks (!), and some crazy cute doll quilts.

Char from Cloth Stitched is really working it. She shared some richly colored table runners, and a shawl that's too pretty for words. Check out this detail.

Terry Aske shared a stunningly beautiful art quilt, using silk leaves.

Ann from Magpie Quilts shared her "Santa's Workshop" and lovely Christmas stockings in seasonal fabric.

Everyone has such beautiful work! I love to see what our team has going. Thanks to everyone who joined up last week, and who will be joining up this week.

SPOTLIGHT: Dawn of "Spring Water Designs"

Hello after a long time away from the SPOTLIGHT feature of the Quiltsy Blog.  Summer is always a bad time for me with family visiting us and spending time outdoors and at the beach.  But, I'm focused on getting back to to a more regular pace of life this Fall.  What better way to kick-off than a new SPOTLIGHT posting of a great quilter?  Let's get to know Dawn of Spring Water Designs!

Jessup, Maryland is where Dawn works her great handmade quilts.  Dawn has had several features in different media outlets, namely on AccuQuilt with a "Winding Ways" quilt tutorial, with the block in contrasting colors:

And her "Cherries Jubilee" quilt she designed and pieced, is featured in the Summer 2012 issue of Fon's & Porter's Easy Quilts!  Dawn wrote a blog post on the feature and this is the look of "Cherries Jubilee" in pinks and browns:

In addition, Dawn keeps her own blog springwaterdesigns.blogspot.com, her own website www.springwaterdesigns.com.  Dawn's Etsy Shop is filled with lovely quilts, home accents, fabric bundles and patterns, among other nice items.  Some of my favorites:

Choice of Sewing / Quilting Machine
Dawn used to quilt on a regular domestic sewing machine, but in Spring 2012, she purchased a "Handi Quilter Sweet 16" sit-down quilting machine, and she hasn't looked back!  The 16" throat space and smooth table surface allows Dawn to sit and quilt her quilts in the way she is used to quilting.   Dawn chose the Handi Quilter because she worked in a quilt shop that sold them.  She was not only familiar with the machine, but also the company and felt the customer service was the best.  Dawn has not been happier with her purchase!  She was so impressed that she became an authorized seller and servicer with her husband.

Favorite Colors
If Dawn were to pick a favorite color, she'd go with yellow. Its always been a color to which she's drawn, whether it be for the color of her rooms in her home, or fabrics to use in her projects.  Lately, Dawn's been favoring combinations of yellow and pink or yellow and gray, although she loves to work with many colors and combinations with white - variety keeps projects fun!

If I could go on vacation......
....Dawn would love to go to Hawai'i one day since Hawai'i is such a different state from the others.  She is just getting to a time in her life when she can travel a little, and she is working on seeing more of the United States. I'd love to get out to Hawaii one day, since that state is so different than any of the others.

Cheers! - Jennifer

My mother and I make up the Olive Street Studio design and sewing team.  I cannot remember my mom NOT sewing or quilting.  Since 2003, we've made chenille and cotton baby quilts, baby gift sets, little girls dresses and skirts, and for a second dimension, reversible tote bags and smaller handbags.  I joined the Quiltsy Team on Etsy in 2010.

WiP Wednesday #32

Welcome to another WiP (Work in Progress) Wednesday! I'm your host, Jerimi. For the next 16 days I'll be obsessing over a holiday craft show that I signed up for.

What's in progress this week? Pincushions, my friend. Pincushions. I have 11 completely done.

I have a bunch that are cut out and waiting to be sewn.

And I have a bunch roughly cut and with interfacing ironed on, waiting to be cut into shape and sewn. Oh, and have buttons put on. Can't forget that part. I have to say picking out buttons and sewing them on is my favorite part of this project.

Now that I've made a few, my speed should pick up. A lot. The first few times I try to figure out how to make a thing, I'm always frustratingly slow.

Thanks so much to everyone who joined up last week, and who will be joining up this week. You rock my world.

WiP Wednesday #31

Welcome to another WiP (Work in Progress) Wednesday! I'm your host, Jerimi. For the next 23 days I'll be obsessing over a holiday craft show that I signed up for.

This week I completed 63 small catnip kicksticks. That's something, right? I'm going to run out of catnip shortly, though, and I don't think I'll have enough Etsy sales between now and the show to be able to make the minimum order for more catnip. ARGH. Not really sure how to solve this, just yet. The show is juried, so I can't just make something completely different after I was cleared for selling cat toys. I'll have to figure something out. I'm open to suggestion if you've ever faced something similar for a show.

I love getting to work with so many different colors and patterns of fabric. I think that’s a big part of the attraction for making these. That, and I love when people send me action shots of their cats with the toys.

So that's what I've been up to, and will probably continue to be up to for a few more weeks. :P And you guys? You guys have been busy. Lots of great shares last week.

Fabric Fascination shared some jaw-dropping hexies.

Happier Than A Bird teased us with a peek at a secret project. How much do you love these fabrics together? Whatever that project is, I just want to wrap up in it on a chilly morning with a giant mug of coffee.

Char from Cloth Stitched shared her plans for this cheerily inspiring fabric. (Click on the link or the image to find out more.)

Terry Aske blew me away with her lovely finish. Everything about this quilt is beautiful.

Jan at Janice Elaine Sews braved a crazy heatwave (107 degrees!) to share this crazy triangle goodness:

Dawn Stewart from Spring Water Designs is practicing her free motion quilting. I'm jealous both of her talent, and her sewing machine.

Finally, thank you to everyone who has participated, and who plans on doing so this week. I know how busy we all get around the holiday season, which is definitely starting to ramp up.

Thank you for taking the time to drop by and share what's on your work table.

Happily Yours in Crafting,
-Jerimi

WiP Wednesday #30

Oh boy, am I tired of making catnip kicksticks. Check this out. That right there is literally hundreds of kicksticks that I've sewn liners in and flipped.

Oh yeah, and there's this stack, too.

They're ready for catnip and filler. Literally a few hundred.

And here are the ones that I've cut but not got liners in, yet.

And these are the muslin liners.

I'm stopping right before I start having nightmares about cutting things out. If this year's holiday craft show in Eagle goes like it did last year, I'll still come close to running out. It's a wicked good show. I have a date with catnip and polyfil, to get these babies finished. Wish me luck! Who else is preparing for a holiday craft show or two?

Ready to show off your hard work? Link up anytime between now and next Monday. Here's your chance to shine!

Best wishes to you, and good luck with your projects.
