

Rising from a small rural village in the 19th century, Cleveland has become the commercial, industrial and business hub of its county while still maintaining contact with earlier times. 

When gold was discovered in the late 1820's on the Nacoochee River (then known as Duke's Creek), it touched off a gold rush. Gold min
ing operations are still found today in the area and tourists and locals alike can pan for gold.
