"Quiltsy Cares" Charity-Quilt-Calliope Joy Foundation by Pamela Boatright 3-3-2015

The Quiltsy Team is doing a month promotion of donating quilts to charity. Each day one of our members is donating a quilt to their favorite charity. Today's member is Pamela Boatright and her charity is the Calliope Joy Foundation.

When asked why this charity is so special to her, she said  "It started as a custom order in my shop, and as I learned more about the family and Cal's diagnosis I had a strong desire to help. Leukodystrophies are not common, but are cruel diseases that rob children of the ability to speak, walk, eat, and breath. I like that this foundation is not only involved in trying to find a cure for these illnesses, but also works to provide the best care and support for the families that will not benefit from a cure as well as working to improve testing to detect the illness in newborns so they can benefit from treatment"

What did you donate and any special details about it: I made a special quilt from squares colored with bright cupcakes at a fundraising event. I prepared the squares beforehand, then after coloring I sewed them together with bright sashing into a fun and happy quilt. I included pictures of Cal and her family in the quilt. I was very pleased with the results, it is a beautiful quilt! Here is the blog post she wrote about the quilt: pamelaquilts.blogspot.com/2015/01/making-difference-with-cupcakes.html

Pam opened her Etsy shop, PamelaQuilts in 2006 because she had a large surplus of quilts that she had made for herself and in her job at the local quilt shop making samples. Since she live in a small town, it has been very fun to send her quilts all over the world to all kinds of people! This has enabled her to not only contribute financially to her family, but to continue to enjoy her love of quilting without filling her house with more quilts than she can possibly ever use! She has even been encouraged to start writing patterns for her original creations - so she continues to be challenged in her quilting life!

Pam lives in beautiful Coos Bay Oregon and as been quilting since 1986, but she learned how to sew as a young girl. Her mom is an excellent seamstress and her biggest fan. She has been a Quiltsy member since it was founded in November of 2007 and is currently serving as Captain of "this awesome group of quilters". Her favorite thing to make is her Quilted Journal Covers because each one is different and she likes making things that are unique.

As a celebration of her Etsy shop being 9 years old, Pam has a special promotion now going on.

"Since my Etsy shop is 9 years old tomorrow I am going to offer a 9% discount with the coupon code CUPCAKE, and will also donate 9% of my total sales for the day to the Calliope Joy Foundation!"
