Quiltsy Cares - Introducing Karen Walters of MonkeyMuffin

Today we are featuring Karen Walters - her Esty shop is MonkeyMuffin and her charity is Warm Up America

Karen says "Warm Up America delivers afghans, hats, and scarves to needy people all over the United States.  My local chapter, Warm Up Sioux Falls, meets each month to join together donated knit or crochet squares to form large warm afghans for local distribution.  This year, I’ve knit 24 squares.  My goal is 100 squares by the end of the year."

She added, "As a busy mom, portable knitting projects are a lifesaver. My sewing machine is at home, a place I’m rarely at!  But I can knit in the pick-up lane, during math homework, and while listening to cello practice.  Best of all, those ‘found’ moments can create something that will keep someone warm and protected during our blustery Midwestern winters."

Karen live in Sioux Falls, SD.  She has been sewing since she was 8 - she said "Mostly clothes for my teddy bears!  I got interested in quilting after my mom took a log cabin class that used a newfangled tool called a rotary cutter.  Careful cutting with scissor and templates never appealed to me but zipping along with the rotary cutter was addictive.   I’ve been quilting ever since."

She has been a member of Quiltsy team since the summer of 2013 and her favorite thing to make in her Etsy Shop is Christmas tree skirts.  She loves the variety of Christmas and winter fabrics that are available, something to match any theme or decor.  Playing even a small part of a family’s holiday celebration is a huge honor for Karen.

Thanks for your donation, Karen, we appreciate having you as a member of Quiltsy Team!

Great project and wonderful charity. Though I would not want to be the person to sew all the knit squares together:))

Karen great charity. I know those who receive the blankets will love them. You've got a good start on the 100 squares. I bet you'll make it!

I remember those days of waiting for kids at various activities and also had some sort of hand work to occupy my time. Your squares are a great way to use this time! I'm sure the blankets will be well appreciated!
