The fire department in the tiny little village on the shore of Lake Michigan is completely volunteer. They handle fires, first responder calls and assist neighboring departments will calls. These men and women give up free time, family time and often work time for calls, meetings and training through out the year. This donation was to give back to these generous community members.
Each year they host a Firefighters Fall Festival which includes fund raising for their auxiliary fund. (See note below) This full sized patchwork quilt was donated to the silent auction. Many community members bid on it but it was won by a neighborhood friend. Both she and her husband serve as firefighters and first responders.

AUXILIARY FUND
This fund is used for helping the community when they experience a loss during an emergency. It also allows us to buy memorial flowers, tree and plants when there is a death of a member (either past or present), or their family members or a death among our fellow fire departments.
Taxpayer dollars are not available for certain purchases like T-shirts for displaying pride in our department, parade candy and event supplies for community participation, holiday parties for team bonding, gifts and other small expenditures. Our auxiliary funds help purchase these other supplies and needs not authorized for purchase using tax funds.
