Quiltsy Cares March 23-Donna Watson

Today's donation comes from Donna Watson from djwquilts. Donna lives in Dover , New Hampshire.
Her charity is one she donates to every year. It's a Quilts for Kids Chapter sponsored by Michelle Knight at Knight's Quilt Shop in York, Me .

The donated quilts go to the Barbara Bush Pediatric Hospital at Maine Medical Center in Portland ME.  Upon admission, each child is given a quilt and a bag with age appropriate items including a book and a journal for their parents. Knight's Quilt Shop has collected over 3000 quilts for donation since 2006! Donna said she enjoys taking a break from custom orders, and making shop inventory, to make quilts for these children thru out the year. It helps her recharge emotionally and creatively.

Here are pictures of the first three for this year. Donna plans to make at least one more (teen boy quilts are in high demand) before the December delivery caravan.

Donna included a link to Michelle's shop for more info on this charity as she is willing to take donations from all over.

Quiltsy Cares March 21-Kelly Wilber

Today's charity donation comes from Kelly Wilber of SewEverAfter. Kelly lives in Snohomish County, Washington. Her Charity is Camano Island Quilters.

Camano Island Quilters is a non-profit group of individuals organized for the purpose of educating its members in all forms of quilting and fiber arts by meeting together monthly, providing classes and opportunities for sharing our love of quilting together.
CIQ has been preparing Comfort Quilts for over 20 years. The quilts provide warmth, comfort, and therapy to children in Providence Children's Center hospital, and the retired nun's at the Sister's of Providence home.

The quilt Kelly has made started with blocks sewn by several different members of the guild. She then turned them into a quilt top, her Mother-in-Law provided the long arm quilting service, and the finished quilt will make it's way into the arms of a child in need of comfort.
