Today I am pleased to feature a
Quiltsy Team member who is donating her work to help animals at a
no-kill shelter near her home. I'll let Victoria (aka Moonie) tell
you about herself and her project . . .

I am Victoria Vallieres, affectionately
known by the Quiltsy team as Moonie because of the name of my Etsy
shop, Moon Dance Textiles.
I have decided to donate my item to a
fundraising effort to help support the local animal shelter. The
Trinity County Animal Shelter is run by the local county
government, many volunteers, and fundraising efforts like this one.
It is a "no-kill" shelter. All lost or unwanted pets
that make their way to the shelter are given health care, as
needed, by local vets and shelter until a new home can be
found for them. Both of my wonderful mixed-breed dogs came from this
shelter as puppies.
The shelter is having an
art auction of donated works by local artists, of
which there are many in my artsy little mountain community.
Weaverville is a historic small town located next to the
beautiful Trinity Alps in northern California. I decided to
donate one of my higher end embellished handbags. This one is in the
Shabby Chic style. It is comprised of a variety of coordinating
fabrics that were quilted onto batting. It is fully lined with
coordinating fabrics.
Moon Dance Textiles has been in
existence in Etsy-land since 2010. I started off selling small quilts
and quilted table runners. Over the years I have expanded and now
sell a variety of quilted and other items made from fabric. Fabric
handbags have captured my attention lately so there are many of them
currently in my shop. So much so, it would seem, that they
were noticed last fall by a magazine editor. Consequently, one
of my bags will be in the coming Spring edition of "Haute
Handbags" by the Stampington Company which will be released in
April 2015.
I have been sewing since I was in the
7th grade and made my first quilt in high school. It was a
wool patchwork tied quilt that I gave to my father. He
cherished it and used it for his nap-on-the-couch quilt up until
he died. I still love to make wool quilts and have a couple in
my shop to this day, as well as some well used ones in my
mountain cabin home.
