Quiltsy Cares 3/31/19

On our last day of Quiltsy Cares we are featuring Kelly Wilbur of Sew Ever After.  Kelley is from Smokey Point Washington, and her donation went to Fidalgo Island Quilters

Our Guild donates crib or lap-size quilts that are in turn given to the more than 300 children and moms a year, who pass through a variety of shelters in Skagit County. Our quilts offer comfort and security during a critical time in their lives.

I stitched this fun Dr. Suess quilt for a special little one in need of some cheering up. My shop partner and Mother-in-Law is Peggy from Peggy's Long-arm Quilting. She did the quilting for our donation and I completed the quilt with the label and binding. After a wash, the flannel backing and cute fabrics have made this one snuggle-ready quilt!
Thank you, Kelly for the fun donation!  It will definitely bring a smile to the face of the recipient!

Quiltsy Cares 3/30/19

MOTHERS WITHOUT BORDERS
In the last few days I have become aware of an organization called Mothers Without Borders.   https://motherswithoutborders.org/our-programs/empower-women/
I found out about it through the owner of my local quilt shop.  Madonna Randt owns Mad B’s Quilt and Sew in Mesa, Arizona.  Through a contact of hers, she found out about this organization, and how she could participate.  She is about to travel to Zambia with this organization!  During her short time in Zambia, she and others with her will teach women to sew.  They will learn to make clothing for the children, including school uniforms.  They will also learn to make small items that could be sold, so they can begin on the road toward self-sufficiency.
Isn’t that a wonderful goal?  Learn a skill and improve your life.
I decided that this would be my charitable organization for this year.  I have donated the amount needed to purchase a sewing machine.  This will not go to just one person but will be used in a sewing club, so many women can benefit.
I am also donating small sewing items that can be taken to and used by the women.  These include zippers (they will be learning to make bags) and thread.
On my business Facebook page, I have a video of Madonna announcing her trip to Africa!   https://www.facebook.com/quiltsewpiece/

Quiltsy Cares 3/11/19

Today we have Gina again from TexasQuiltsforYou with another quilt she has quilted for Quilts of Valor.  Gina is from Houston, Texas.

Gina says:
I have always felt grateful to those who protect us and by being a part of the QOV family, I get to show my gratitude and support.I do the quilting on QOV tops; I volunteered for one top per month.

Gina - thank you for helping those who have served us so well!

Quiltsy Cares 3/8/19

Elsie of QuiltsbyElsie works with her local quilt guild, North Star Quilters of Cadillac, MI.
"We make charity quilts to be given to the local women's shelter, and the hospital for babies."

This  year she also donated a couple of mug rugs.  The members have all been asked to donate mug rugs to be sold at our quilt show this year, as a special
fundraiser.

What a fun idea for a fund raiser, hope they raise a good amount!
