Quiltsy Cares: Lauren Krueger of CactusPenguin

Today’s featured Quiltsy member is Lauren Krueger of CactusPenguin. Lauren lives in Sun Lakes, AZ, and the charity she is donating to is the Gilbert Fire Department Station No. 1.

Why is your charity special to you?
Several years ago, I witnessed a fatal accident of a mom driving her children. The emergency crew had nothing to wrap the kids in except a tarp. Every year, I donate at least one comfort quilt to a fire department.

What did you donate and any special details about it?
This year, I have made two flannel rag child quilts in bright colors.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My shop is CactusPenguin, named so for the blend of midwest where I grew up, and Arizona where I live now. I live in Sun Lakes, a wonderful community in the East Valley of Phoenix.

I have sewn since I was 6, but only started quilting about 15 years ago. I enjoy sewing quilts so much more than garments, but my favorite fabrics are holiday prints, especially Christmas and patriotic themes.

How long have you been a member of the Quiltsy Team?
I joined the Quiltsy team almost 3 years ago and have made some wonderful online friends. Many of us try and schedule meet-ups when we are traveling to another Quiltsy's home town.

For this month's blog features, Quiltsy team members signed up for a date to donate their quilts; other team members volunteered to write the blog posts. I want to thank all the team members who participated this year. This team is great!
