WiP Wednesday #42

I'm writing this on Christmas night, so it will necessarily be brief. :P How much do I love you guys that I'm writing this on Christmas?

I've been taking a break from "serious" projects this week and just done some improv scrap piecing.

These are destined to be trimmed to 2.5" x 15" and used for building log cabin blocks. I'll use any scrap of fabric that is 1-2.4" on the smallest side. I have to be in the right frame of mind to make these strips, so that they're meditative instead of tedious. The chaos and pressure of this week have been perfectly conducive to this kind of project - something that I can begin and end at will.

What's the smallest piece of fabric you will save and work with? For me, any scrap under 1" winds up being used as stuffing or something like that.

What are you working on? I'd love to see! Remember that the "Hurricane Sandy" rails absolutely count as a WiP, if you'd like to share yours. You can join up anytime between now and Monday night. Hope you had/have a lovely holiday!

Great post and I thank you for writing it up on Christmas.
This is my favorite thing to do. The smallest scrap I use is 3/4 inches. When I make sting blocks sometimes I just want to see that little sliver of color. I never use a string larger than 2 inches.

Wow - How great are you to be working on this on Christmas. It is much appreciated!

I rarely keep scraps smaller than about 3" square. Like Char above, I do love to make string quilts so I will keep longer strips down to about an inch wide. If I keep them too small, I get overwhelmed with scraps pretty fast.

You are awesome for doing this on Christmas! Gold Star!

I'll keep them to around 1 inch for string blocks usually. I've been cutting my scraps down to strips of 1 1/2, 2, and 2 1/2 to use in scrap quilts. Can't wait to work on some in 2013!
